Author Phyllis Biffle Elmore will visit the Hoover Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for a program highlighting Alabama’s quilting tradition and the stories it carries. The event will take place on the library’s Plaza.
In conjunction with The March Quilts, a local nonprofit whose annual art projects commemorate themes of civil and human rights, Elmore will be joined by radio host Burgin Mathews for a discussion of her memoir, “Quilt of Souls.” The book weaves through time to share true stories of racism, sexism and colorism, along with accounts of strength and pride that honor Elmore’s family and ancestors.
The Feb. 17 program will also serve as the kickoff to a series of three community events featuring Elmore and Mathews.
