Q: What kinds of injuries do you treat at OS1?
A: We see everyone from busy, sports-minded families to senior adults trying to stay active. If you need urgent care for an acute, sports-related or orthopedic injury — a fracture, sprain, dislocation, overuse injury or sports concussion — you can come see us and skip the expensive hospital ER visit. We also treat chronic conditions like osteoarthritis.
Q: Do I need an appointment to be treated?
A: No, at OS1 Sports Injury Clinic, there’s unmatched walk-in access to a fellowship-trained sports medicine professional. Not only that, our office hours are extended past that of a typical doctor’s office (weekdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekends 1-6 p.m.).
Q: Are your sports medicine providers ready to treat a major injury if I have one?
A: Yes, both of our sports medicine providers are very accustomed to treating patients in dire, urgent situations.
Our clinic has a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician, Dr. Chris Williams, at the helm. He recently completed his fellowship and clinical training at the world-renowned Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Williams has worked in several emergency rooms in Louisiana and in Birmingham and has experience dealing with traumatic injuries as well as extensive training in the non-surgical management of sports-related and non-sports-related injuries.
Nurse practitioner Bryan Wimbish also brings extensive experience to the table. Bryan is a board-certified family and emergency room nurse practitioner with sports medicine training. He has years of ortho urgent care experience and worked six years in the ER as a registered nurse.
Q: How does your on-site extremity MRI make the patient experience even better?
A: We have an MRI at our clinic for use with hand, arm, leg, knee and ankle injuries. In most instances, orthopedic groups don’t have MRI capability on site, so patients are referred to a third-party vendor for that diagnostic test. Having this available at our clinic speeds up diagnosis and makes the experience more convenient for our patients.
Q: What if I’ve got a minor injury that’s been bothering me for a while? Should I come to OS1?
A: Yes! We strongly believe musculoskeletal injuries or pain shouldn’t go untreated, even during a pandemic. OS1 is a much safer alternative to the ER or general urgent care because we’re focused on only treating orthopedic issues. We’re ready to help get you back to doing the things that you love.
Q: What sort of precautions is OS1 taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19?
A: With so many patients presenting with COVID-19 symptoms, general urgent cares are experiencing unprecedented patient volume. Our goal is to help alleviate the burden by quickly providing direct access to specialized orthopedic care along with safety measures like masks and frequent sanitation. Our clinic opened June 15, and from day one, we have been focused on helping our patients with their orthopedic injuries and conditions, while preventing the spread of COVID-19.
