Q: What is Dorsett Dental Care’s area of expertise?
A: We are a do-it-all family dental office. We want to be known as somewhere that patients can come and experience a comfortable family atmosphere while also receiving the best quality of care in dentistry. We like to focus on the individual with personalized care for each and every patient.
As far as the dentistry goes, we pride ourselves on doing quality work with the most modern techniques available. With all of that being said, we would consider our area of expertise to be patient experience. We fully understand that the majority of patients don’t love going to the dentist or look forward to going to the dentist. We feel like we can be different by going above and beyond to give our patients an experience that make them actually enjoy going to the dentist.
Q: What types of services and products do you offer?
A: We offer all aspects of general dentistry, including routine cleanings and checkups, fillings, crowns, veneers, dentures and partials, root canals and/or extractions for patients in pain.
Q: What problems do you and Dorsett Dental Care offer solutions to?
A: There is a variety of issues that come up on a daily basis in dentistry. We have a solution for all of them. It could be something like a chipped or broken tooth that we can quickly fix with a filling or crown. Or it could be something like a mouth full of badly decayed and broken teeth that requires full mouth extractions and a set of dentures.
It could be something like a missing tooth, in which Dr. Josh Dorsett could do an implant for. It could even be a few too many wrinkles on the face that Dr. Maria Dorsett could do Botox or fillers on. We want to be able to provide a solution for any and all issues that patients can throw our way.
Q: How long has Dorsett Dental Care been open?
A: We opened Sept. 14, 2020. Prior to that, we were both working in private practice as associates. After graduating from dental school, Josh did a one-year residency focusing on dental implants and dental surgery prior to becoming an associate.
Q: Describe your backgrounds, both educational and experiential.
A: Dr. Josh went to the University of Alabama for undergrad and graduated with a degree in biology. Immediately following undergrad, he went to dental school at UAB. After graduating from UAB, he did a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency that focused on dental implants and dental surgery. Following the residency, he joined a private practice, where he worked as an associate until opening Dorsett Dental Care.
Dr. Maria went to Ole Miss for undergrad and graduated with a degree in biology. Immediately following undergrad, she went to dental school at UAB. After graduating, Maria joined a private practice where she worked as an associate until opening the practice.
Q: What is your approach to customer service?
A: We try to treat everyone as though they were our own family members, and we always try to keep in mind how we’d like to be treated ourselves at the doctor’s office. We will always welcome you into our office with a smile and won’t treat you like another chart number.
We want to establish relationships with our patients and catch up at return visits. We want to meet our patients’ families, have the honor of treating their parents, children, friends and send out congratulations, thank you and birthday cards and make people feel like family.
Q: What is your benchmark for success?
A: Our benchmark for success would be when we have established a culture of trust at Dorsett Dental Care where patients can confidently refer their loved ones to us knowing that they will be treated with respect, receive honest evaluations and truly enjoy going to the dentist.
Q: Share with us a success story in the brief time that your practice has been open.
A: We connected with a patient so well that he stopped by to drop off his family’s cookbook for us to take a look at. This is the type of relationship we strive for with each of our patients.
Q: How has Dorsett Dental Care adjusted its operations to comply with COVID-19 safety measures?
A: Our office is brand new, so it makes it easy to keep things sanitary and clean to help customers feel safe. We rigorously stick to our equipment maintenance schedule, we have a cleaning checklist every morning and evening, and we disinfect between each and every patient using hospital-grade disinfectants. In addition, we have installed UV-C lights in each of our units, which automatically turn on and sanitize the air as it circulates through each unit.
Q: What do you want potential future patients to know about your practice?
A: The most important thing we want any potential patients to know is that we understand that going to the dentist can be unpleasant. We understand a fear of the dentist and how a patient may feel overwhelmed with the dental jargon that gets thrown around or vulnerable when they can’t speak because there are hands in their mouth. We want patients to know that we are here for them and will always treat them as though they were our mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. We value honesty and will never try to “sell” unnecessary treatment.
