The Alabama School of Fine Arts, located in downtown Birmingham, inspires students in grades 7-12 to develop their creative abilities to the utmost. ASFA also provides them with both a solid academic foundation and a deep-dive specialty education in the arts and sciences.
ASFA is a state-funded, tuition-free public specialty school that offers a world-class academic and specialty education to talented students from across Alabama regardless of their financial background. Prospective students go through an application and audition process.
Students choose from one of six specialties to focus on: creative writing, dance, music, theater arts, visual arts or math-science.
ASFA offers a rigorous curriculum, including AP and honors classes, and distinguished faculty who are accomplished practitioners in their fields.
ASFA is “a next-level school,” and more than 90% of its graduates receive merit scholarships annually, said Tim Mitchell, school president.
ASFA will host its annual Open House for prospective students on Sat., Oct. 17, with sessions at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. Families can tour the campus at 1800 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd., learn about the admission and application process and meet department chairs, administrators and current students.
