Two 19-year-olds have been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a Hoover apartment complex.
On Sept. 14, Hoover police responded to a report of shots fired in The Park at Hoover apartment complex. Officers arrived in the 2200 block of Rime Village Drive in the complex and found shell casings on the ground as well as three parked cars that had been hit by gunfire, according to a release from Lt. Keith Czeskleba. One of the apartment buildings was also reportedly hit by at least one round of gunfire.
There was no evidence of injuries, according to the report.
“First of all, we’re very fortunate that nobody was injured during this incident, first and foremost,” Czeskleba said. “Obviously if someone had gotten injured, this would have been a lot worse than it is.”
Following interviews with witnesses, detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a fight that took place minutes before the shooting, according to police. Czeskleba said that Hoover PD is fortunate to have the support of the community and to have citizens who are willing to talk with officers and provide information in cases such as this one.
“It just goes to show that not only is the police department not going to tolerate reckless behavior like this, but the citizens of Hoover are not going to tolerate reckless behavior like this,” he said.
Following the fight, two black males reportedly began shooting at a black male and female, who then shot back.
“It just goes to show, it’s another example of people resorting to firearms to settle their differences, and it’s just a disturbing trend that we’re seeing, not necessarily just in Hoover, but I think across the country in general,” Czeskleba said.
Police identified the men who reportedly instigated the shooting at Irondale resident Anthony Rudolfo Major Jr. and Birmingham resident Chauncey Marcel Holman. Major and Holman were charged with two counts of attempted murder apiece, and their bond was set at $60,000 each.
The 19-year-olds were taken into custody on Sept. 16, according to the report, and brought to Hoover City Jail. They were transferred to Jefferson County Jail on Sept. 17.
